SEO ‘essential’ for B2B websites

Organisations operating in the business-to-business (B2B) arena must make use of search engine optimisation (SEO) to attract potential clients, an expert has said.

Speaking to SmartCompany.com.au, Phil Hare of SmartPath, an asset management software company, said that the internet is one of the most important marketing channels for B2B businesses and called on these firms to make the most of the medium.

He explained that using SEO will help the target audience to find that website first when searching for the products or services they need, while implementing a "persuasive and professional" design that places the company’s value proposition on the homepage could also boost business.

Relevant and compelling content can help to separate that business from the competition, particularly for key decision-makers who may be tired of the standard online selling techniques already used in the industry, Mr Hare said.

Last year, a JupiterResearch study found that online spending by small businesses in the US could exceed $70 billion (£38 billion) by 2012.
